Cissus Rotundifolia

Description

Cissus rotundifolia, also known as Arabian grape ivy, is a climbing plant belonging to the Vitaceae family. Native to the arid regions of the Arabian Peninsula and East Africa, this plant is valued for its resilience and attractive foliage. Its leaves are small, round, and fleshy, with a vibrant glossy green color, making it an excellent ornamental choice for both indoor and outdoor environments.

Light
Cissus rotundifolia prefers bright, indirect light. It can also tolerate some direct sunlight, especially if acclimated gradually. Indoors, place it near a well-lit window for best growth.

 Temperature and Humidity
This plant thrives in warm temperatures, ideally between 20 and 30°C (68–86°F). It tolerates heat well and can withstand higher temperatures, but should be protected from cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C (50°F). Due to its arid origins, Arabian grape ivy does not require high humidity and can adapt well to dry indoor air.

 Watering
Water moderately, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings to prevent root rot. Reduce watering further during winter. Use room-temperature water to avoid shocking the roots.

Soil
Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a cactus or succulent blend, to help avoid excess moisture around the roots. Good drainage is essential for this species.

Fertilization
Feed every two months during the active growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, diluted fertilizer. Feeding is not necessary in fall and winter.

 Pruning and Support
Prune to maintain an attractive shape and encourage bushier growth. Providing a support structure, such as a trellis or stakes, is beneficial—especially when grown outdoors—since this plant naturally likes to climb.

 Common Problems
Generally pest-resistant, but it may occasionally be affected by scale insects or spider mites. Regular inspections and early treatment will help keep the plant healthy. Avoid overwatering to prevent fungal issues and root rot.

With the proper care, Cissus rotundifolia will thrive and bring a touch of resilient, elegant greenery to your home or garden.
