Epiphyllum angulaire

Description

Epiphyllum anguliger, also known as the “Orchid Cactus” or “Fishbone Cactus,” is an epiphytic plant belonging to the Cactaceae family. Native to Mexico, it is easily recognized by its flat, zigzag-shaped stems and reduced leaves that create a unique, sculptural appearance.

Here are some care tips:

Light

The Epiphyllum anguliger prefers bright, indirect light or partial shade. Place it in a spot where it receives filtered sunlight or gentle morning or evening sun. Avoid harsh midday sun, which can scorch the stems.

Watering

Water moderately, allowing the top layer of soil to dry out between waterings. In summer, water about once a week; in winter, reduce watering to every 10 days or so as growth slows down.

Soil

Use a well-draining mix specifically formulated for cacti and succulents. Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.

Temperature

This cactus prefers moderate temperatures and does not tolerate frost. Keep it in an environment above 10°C (50°F) at all times.

Fertilization

Feed once a month during spring and summer with a diluted liquid fertilizer designed for cacti and succulents. Avoid fertilizing in autumn and winter, when the plant rests.

Repotting

Repot every 2 to 3 years in spring, if needed. Choose a slightly larger pot with adequate drainage holes.

Precautions

Handle with care — although generally non-toxic, the plant’s sap can be mildly irritating. Wear gloves when handling or repotting.
